Control (PC, 2019) Photo mode / Postprocessed in Lightroom Classic
I really enjoy the cinematography of Mr. Robot and how they frame shots unconventionally so that the characters are closer to the edges of the frame, leaving the rest of the background as the dominant space in the shot. It heightens the tension of the show and leaves you with the feeling that something eerie and not-quite-right is happening. I thought this style would be really great to explore in the world of Control.
There's a video on YouTube by Karsten Runquist that theorizes that Mr. Robot's framing is a way to show "society" as a character on the show. In a way, the Oldest House is also a character in Control, and I was really looking forward to the photo mode to take photos of all of the striking Brutalist architecture in the game. But, while I love photos that are purely symmetrical, too much of that gets boring quickly. So by purposefully unbalancing photos, I'm also hoping to bring out some of the eerieness of being at the Federal Bureau of Control.
